No flat-towing
An EV's motor is permanently connected to the wheels via reduction gearing. Towing with the drive wheels on the ground spins the motor without lubrication or cooling — it'll fail.
⚡ Electric Vehicle Recovery
Most EVs cannot be flat-towed without damaging the motor or transmission. We use a tilt-bed flatbed that loads gently with all four wheels off the ground — the safe way to recover a Tesla, Polestar, ID.4, Mustang Mach-E, e-Niro or any modern electric.
The basics most general recovery operators don't know — but you should.
An EV's motor is permanently connected to the wheels via reduction gearing. Towing with the drive wheels on the ground spins the motor without lubrication or cooling — it'll fail.
Even if you put one axle on a dolly, the other axle still drives the motor on most EVs. The whole vehicle has to come off the road — that's what a flatbed does.
Plug stuck? Charge fault? Battery management dead? We can recover from any public charge point — service stations, supermarkets, hotel chargers.
Most EVs need 12V power to release the parking brake and select neutral for loading. Our truck has a 12V boost pack to wake yours up if the auxiliary battery's flat.
EV battery fires are rare but serious. We're trained to recognise the warning signs (smoke, heat, hissing) and won't load a vehicle that's actively venting.
Battery flat at the side of the road? We'll take you home, to a fast charger, to your dealer service centre, or to your house — your call.
